4/13: Event: Wine, Women, World Jewelry

Lotusland ImportsThis beautiful sunny Sunday, KKC ventured off The Drive to the West End onto Beach Avenue to meet-up with dancer and pilates instructor Karen Kobel and her latest invite event, a trunk show for Lotusland Imports. A company with conversation-starting ethical jewellery – designed in Italy at Milan‘s prestigious Istituto Europeo di Design, meticulously handcrafted by 200 Maasai artisans in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro – a direct trade, high fashion fusion where Milan meets Maasai.

“When it comes to craftsmanship, there is certainly no lack of incredible talent amongst the women of the Maasai. Yet as individuals they are much more than just artisans, wives and daughters – they are strong and independent-minded women with personalities and histories as colourful as the beads that adorn their bodies.”  http://www.lotuslandimports.com

These removable bracelets are replicas of ones worn by young girls who are victims of female genital mutilation. In reality, the young girls cannot remove the bracelets and are ‘marked’ for future husbands.

The Lotusland Imports website has so much information on the subject of female genital mutilation, the Masai women who create these pieces and how you can help the entrepreneurial spirit by shopping and wearing these extraordinary pieces!

Thank you for the invite Karen and we look forward to working together with you in the future on more fashion parties!
