During Vancouver Fashion Week F/W 2014, I was asked to lend a hand to a local designer – a few items were needed to complete her runway looks – small request but a important one.
Once at the venue I was to meet the vivacious Styleby Dona and hand over my goody bag which contained a vintage Schiaparelli bonnet, delicate lace and pearl button gloves and a few hand rolled silk scarves. Of course, as often happens in fashion, things went awry and I ended up perched on the end of the runway waiting. I took advantage of the unexpected downtime to flip through the latest NICHE Magazine and instagram’ing my too high heels.
Ten minutes later a curious woman approached and asked me a question about something which I do not remember now but we started talking and found we had a common interest in animal welfare and rescue groups – her in Turkey and myself in Greece, the environment and healthy eating. She was charming with her accent and the rest, as they say, is history. She was Zuhal Kuvan-Mills of Green Embassy and I was taken with her drive and her fantastic life story. We talked forever and I even modeled one of her gorgeous cruelty-free organic dresses off the runway and in many photos that evening.
Fast forward to the upcoming Vancouver Fashion Week and Kitsilano Kitty’s Closet is proud to be assisting Green Embassy and Zuhal in presenting a private event at our workspace for her buyers, retailers, select media and guests entitled Green Embassy: Behind the Designs Artist Talk and Tea w/Zuhal Kuvan-Mills. (If you wish to attend, please email through our Contact Us page at KitsilanoKittysCloset.com)
Green Embassy will be closing the Thursday, September 18th runway shows. For those unable to attend, on the previous Saturday, September 13th Venue Club downtown is hosting a fundraiser for local model Amanda Oiom to help her live her dream of joining Green Embassy and walking the runway in Paris as part of World Fashion Week. The fundraiser is open to the public and included in the admission fee will be a sneak peek mini-fashion show of the newest Green Embassy collection and a silent auction of a Green Embassy handcrafted garment and jewellery.
Everyone at Kitsilano Kitty’s Closet is thrilled to be taking part in Green Embassy‘s visit, organizing and planning various events, taking appointments and assisting with showings! It will be an exciting week but one that we will cherish.
