9/17: Day 2 of VFW S/S 2015 – LaSalle College Intl Showcase

The opening runway on Day 2 showcased student works from LaSalle College International and marks their 10th consecutive season as a Vancouver Fashion Week partner. To everyone’s visual delight, additional talent from the College’s international network campuses in Montréal, Casablanca, Jakarta and Barcelona were also showing their collections.

What an explosive show of delicious eye candy! The three designers from Barcelona blew all my preconceived notions of what the marriage between art and fashion looks like. Not that any of these designs are for daily wear or even special event wear, they show a level of complexity and creativity in construction that makes them immediately museum worthy.

Emerging Designers Night is always anticipated especially by the students themselves, their friends and families, and by fashionistas on the look-out to align themselves with the next big designer. There is a certain amount of prestige that comes with having a discerning eye and arriving for the evening wearing garments created by a showing designer the same day of their runway.

For the evening, I chose to wreck havoc and counter all the colourful outfits that have been inhabiting the front row with all black from head to toe! It felt amazing to revel in glory that is black on black on black.

The wondrous hat is from Granville Island Hat Shop and I must thank Rachelle Cashato for allowing me access to their amazing collection of headwear. The black velvet fitted jacket is vintage Christian Lacroix from Kitsilano Kitty‘s TheCloset and one of my personal favourites. Not shown is a knee-length vintage Balmain LBD and pointy Via Spiga boots.

This outfit was warm, comfortable and le grande chapeau gave me a better understanding of personal space – both mine and others!
