What have you been reading this summer? After a heavy winter of Russian novels and Adichiie, I devoured Kevin Kwan’s delightful China Rich Girlfriend, the sequel to his 2013 blockbuster Crazy Rich Asians. The Austen-esque novel is a comic romp through the obscenely wealthy denizens of Hong Kong, Singapore and Shanghai. This week’s knot is almost like a jaunt, a simple but joyous thrill to wear.
The Atlantic knot is a variation of the Shelby knot, which we covered two weeks ago. It is also like a simplified version of the Eldredge, one of the most difficult knots to master. Like the Shelby, one may tie it using a heavier or wider tie, since the cravat need not contort itself like in Cirque du Soleil to make it through.
This knot is joyous and avant-garde at the same time, and would add flavor to your cocktail party or another festive occasion. This also works well with ties which are not monochromatic, or has different design elements throughout.
Tie carefully, yours in knotwerk,
