PRESS RELEASE – AUGUST 6, 2015
(Vancouver, BC) Partners Helen Siwak and Vladimiros Xanthopoulos (formerly of Kitsilano Kitty’s Closet) are delighted to announce the opening of their first stand-alone boutique, THECloset YVR, which will be located in Vancouver’s historic Gastown next to award-winning restaurant Pidgin. THECloset YVR shall be partnering with local businesses and international designers at the new boutique.
Originally a hobby that quickly turned to a full-time online business (on eBay and KitsilanoKittysCloset.com), the pair shall transition to brick and mortar resale to better develop lasting relationships with valued customers, and to be able to take boutique service to a new level with value-added services. With the guidance of mentors Craig Patterson (Retail-Insider, Winston Collective) and lawyer and style writer Ritchie Po (KnotWerk By Ritchie Po), the concept has been realized.
The ‘ecoluxury lifestyle’ concept is one that the pair believes will thrive in Vancouver given the city’s perpetual thirst for the “next big thing” and love of the environment. Early on in the conceptual process, Siwak decided to develop a shopping concept that focused on curated classic style as opposed to trends, luxury quality over fast fashion, thus elevating THECloset YVR a few steps above the neighbourhood consignment store, at attractive price points. Only 25% of the boutique’s floor space is reserved for consignment.
“We view ourselves not just as a resale boutique, but as an eco-shopping experience,” said Helen Siwak. “Our mission is to provide our clients with a wide range of the highest quality in luxury garments and the opportunity to be assisted by professional stylists in a welcoming atmosphere with value-added services and refreshments.”
‘Ecoluxury’ means that every garment, footwear and accessory will have passed through at least one set of hands (making it ecofriendly) and will have its high level of quality reflected in the designer label (luxury). The ‘lifestyle’ refers to all additional complementary products, including vegan grooming products, upcycled/recycled accessories, decorative homewares and artwork, created by artisans living in BC such as MeYouBody, Basic Design, Soap Rebel and Reclaimed Print.
THECloset YVR will also exclusively stock fashions by international designers such as Michelle Lesniak (Season 11 winner, Project Runway) and Marita Mamuchashvili (VFW, Tsiblisi, Georgia) and is in talks with Vancouver’s Sea Shepherd Conservation Society to be the only retailer of Sea Shepherd merchandise in Vancouver. In addition to modern luxury designers (Armani, Versace, Gucci and Dior), the boutique will carry pieces by legendary designers such as Mary Quant, Jean-Charles de Castelbejac, Courreges and Alberta Ferretti.
“We definitely saw an opportunity to add ecofriendly philosophy to an upscale resale boutique. Not only do Vancouver shoppers want luxury products but they also desire uniqueness at an affordable price point. They will be able to find this through ecoluxury resale.” – Helen Siwak
International stylist Dominique Hanke (HankeStyle and Hive Mind Millinery) has joined THECloset YVR as Lead In-house Ecostylist. She will take consultation appointments each Monday and private appointments in the evenings for those who wish to purchase one of the various customizable ecostyling packages available.
Clients will also be able to have their measurements and designer preferences added to the in-house VIP database, shop with the assistance of professional in-house ecostylists, and even arrange to have their purchases delivered to their home or workplace by DailyDelivery.ca the same day. With additional strategic alliances created with other Vancouver entrepreneurs, clients will also receive eco-coupons for Pressed & Proper executive mobile dry-cleaning and Diamond Bright Smile’s tooth whitening service. Consignment clients will have access to complimentary authentication and to an appraisal service through two off-site professionals.
Other unique features to THECloset YVR will be monthly mini in-store pop-up’s by local designers and artists, the introduction of the private fashion lounge club to be named “THESalon YVR”, the presence of a loveable security dog named Snickers (wearing custom upcycled fashion by designer Stevie Crowne), ‘No Tax Tuesday’, ‘Thoughtful Thursday’ charity shopping nights, and a new window display every Sunday which celebrates the birth dates of legendary luxury designers.
THECloset YVR will launch with a private celebration on the evening of August 21, 2015 for VIP guests and media. The launch will be hosted by marketing guru Orianna Lacey, shall include catering by PlantBase Food, gift bags sponsored in part by La Biosthetique and a one night only viewing of a very special luxury items.
TheCloset YVR will open to the public on August 22, 2015, and opening day will include afternoon refreshments and sweets.
