Stevie Crowne debuted his latest capsule collection named LuxRedux: Revamped EcoLuxury at THECloset YVR with an intimate get-together of his friends and supporters. This was our first collaboration between an upcycling designer and our newly opened niche ecoluxury lifestyle boutique and everyone agreed this is a path worth pursuing.

Since 2011, Canadian fashion designer Stevie Crowne has been upcycling and repurposing vintage and thrift clothing as a creative process and in order to reduce the fashion communities’ high carbon footprint – which has never been more evident than it is now in today’s manufacturer based world of fast fashion.

THECloset YVR provided Stevie with all the base garments for this capsule collection (women’s, men’s, footwear) from our inventory of luxury fashion designers that were not in pristine condition such as Elie Tahari, Valentino, Stuart Weitzman, Talula Babaton and even H&M Conscious Collection (which is already made of recycled material).

Retailers know that the slightest defect or snag is enough to render a garment unsellable in traditional retail, so this collaboration extends the lifespan of luxury garments in a viable and exciting way.

While incorporating techniques such as basic pattern manipulation and embellishing old fabrics, Stevie breathed new life into otherwise unwearable clothing and created an authentic regeneration of vintage style into with today’s street fashion market. He also incorporates other methods which include fabric dying, fabric manipulation, and minor/major alternatives to change the appearance of each original piece.
